Nigeria's Economic Revival: 10 CBN's Interventions Leading the Way. By Clem Aguiyi

Email: totalpolitics@ymail.com Tel: 08034747898  ‘’Monetary policy is like juggling six balls. It is not an interest rate up. There is an interest rate down. There is the exchange rate, there are long-term yields, there are short-term yields, and there is credit growth’’. -Raghuram Rajan When Olayemi Cardoso was first appointed the Central Bank Governor, many greeted his appointment with scepticism. The questions weren’t about his credentials and career path as a former banker and public officer. After all the immediate past governor that he succeeded was a Havard alumnus. The questions were if he could do the job and restore confidence in the monetary policy. Given his calm look; does he have the nerve to implement tough policies, checkmate the abuse of bankers' forum, restore discipline in the ways and means, stabilize the Naira, and halt the runaway – inflation that was biting hard on the citizens and still biting? His appointment came at a time when the Central Bank of Nigeria ...

CBN's N550BN Treasury Bills Issuance: Economic and Monetary Implications By : Clem Aguiyi

Image
The Central Bank of Nigeria's (CBN) decision to issue Treasury bills worth N550Bn is a crucial monetary policy tool aimed at managing inflation, stabilizing the exchange rate, and influencing interest rates. The impact of this issuance on Nigeria's economic outlook is multifaceted. The CBN's issuance of Treasury bills is expected to help combat inflation, which has been a persistent challenge for the Nigerian economy. By absorbing excess liquidity from the financial system, the CBN can reduce the money supply and curb inflationary pressures .  However, the effectiveness of this strategy depends on various factors, including the level of economic activity, the exchange rate, and the overall monetary policy stance. The issuance of the proposed Treasury bills will also influence interest rates in the economy. By issuing bills with attractive yields, the CBN can increase the cost of borrowing for banks and other financial institutions, which in turn can lead to higher lending ...

What the CBN must do to ensure the Naira remains stable and Strong By Clem Aguiyi

Image
Totalpolitics@ymail.com  Tel: 08034747898 A strong and stable Naira is crucial to economic growth , development and National Security.   The questions are : What must CBN do to make the Naira strong and stable .  To nsure the Naira remains stable and potentially regains its value, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) should consider the following measures: 1. *Maintain a stable monetary policy*: The CBN should continue to implement a stable monetary policy framework, focusing on price stability and low inflation. This will help to maintain investor confidence and reduce the pressure on the Naira. 2. *Manage foreign exchange effectively*: The CBN should continue to manage the foreign exchange market effectively, ensuring that there is sufficient liquidity to meet the demands of importers and investors. This can be achieved through a combination of interventions in the foreign exchange market and the use of monetary policy tools. 3. *Promote exports and reduce impo...

Election 2023: Last minute things Atiku must do to energize his base. By Clem Aguiyi

Image
Email: totalpolitics@ymail.com If I am to call the 2023 election at this hour, based on the configuration of traditional Nigerian politics, I will call it for Waziri Atiku Abubakar, yet this is one election that I am hesitant to call now because from my perspective, it’s a  tight race and thus far everything remains fluid.    The Peter Obi surge is real, not relenting and cannot be dismissed with a wave of hand. If there will be element of surprises, it will be PO winning  25% votes across the required states, as well as  the popular votes. Given the organic population of his followership this may be difficult but not an impossible task.   Another shocker that may be experiences will be Bola Ahmed Tinubu in-spite  of the word war in APC emerging a clear winner in the election that he is projected to loss. I don’t know any Nigerian that is not angry with APCs destruction of the country. Everyone I know wants the party out.   It’s extremely difficul...

Standing at a great height of 6ft tall, she is elegant, beautiful with dreamy eyes, a joy to behold...

Word War : Why I support the Atiku/ Ifeanyi Okowa balanced ticket By Clem Aguiyi

Image
Though I listed  the phone number on my page as SMS only,  yet some readers will not heed to the notice. They would rather call to engage in word war. Over the years as a political writer, I have learnt  to be patient with my readers and their reactions. Reason being; if, they will spend their money to buy the paper because of my column and patiently read through every single line of what I have written, I must also be a patient listener to those that summoned the courage to call me rather than SMS.  No matter how tortuous the word war might be , I have learnt not to be irritated. From our disagreements, I have  learnt a lot and also used the opportunity to clarify myself on some issues. It’s not every time that one is right.     Last week, one of my regular readers called to find out why I am not noisy about the 2023 election. He went on to speak on how both PDP and APC ruined the country. He spoke about his new political preference and what he c...

KWANKWASO AND HIS ARROGANCE TOWARDS OBI

Image
Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of NNPP, is obviously hungry for Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party, to run with him as the VP in a joint ticket. Kwankwaso knows that such a ticket would prove formidable against APC and PDP.  But he is going about it with so much crass arrogance. Which is a pity really. And an indication that there's no one giving him a good counsel on this particular subject. I suspect that, like for most Nigerian big-time politicians, there's no one around Sen. Kwankwaso that has enough guts to speak to him from time to time, helping him to moderate (and to improve) his public speeches and his body language in general.  Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso boasts of having far more credentials in holding elected and appointed leadership positions than Obi; which is true. But, pray, which genuinely confident man or woman brags about him or herself? Such boasting already cheapens Kwankwaso, making him a laughing stock. I g...
